Imaginet works with Haywood and Filminera Resources Corporation (FRC) to provide education opportunities for the community of the Masbate Gold Project

Filminera Resources Corporation (FRC), partly owned by CGA Mining, is one of mining companies leading the Masbate Gold Project (MGP). As part of the organization’s commitment to developing not only the mining industry of the Philippines, but also contributing to the social and economic development of the communities, FRC answers the technological and educational advancement issues of the community’s schools.

In keeping with its commitment, FRC collaborated with Imaginet International Inc., as part of their CSR projects, implemented the MGP School I.T. Program in November 2008. The I.T. program aims to answer some of the main challenges and needs of the schools in the Masbate province including computer training and classroom rehabilitation.

By taking specific attention to computer training and Internet education, the project intends to equip educators with opportunities to provide contemporary methods in teaching and efficient data research and management. In November 2008, Imaginet conducted preliminary assessments on the overall environment of the community to determine the correct approach and scheduling for the project.

A total of 13 new Lenovo K200 computers were initially purchased, delivered and installed in four selected schools. The full computer set up included Lenovo 19 inch LCDs and computer desks and HP 5610 All-in-One printers. Imaginet also installed Microsoft Vista Operating System, Microsoft Office 2007, Norton 360 Antivirus, and Webroot Spysweeper.

In May of 2009, Imaginet, along with Haywood began Phase 2 of the MGP School IT Program to deliver more computers and monitor the progress of the instructors and students of the community.

Imaginet works with best-of-breed IT brands to provide the community of the Masbate Gold Project with computer products and education.

Imaginet also organized training sessions for all the beneficiary schools that lasted for two days.

The training course included:

• Essential information on the proper use and maintenance of computers
• Navigating Windows Vista Operating System,
• Basic file management
• Use of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, PowerPoint etc.)
• Internet use and navigation
• Email setup and use
• Printing and scanning

After three months, the team from Imaginet went back to Masbate to conduct a refresher course. Imaginet also provided maintenance services to continuously train the educators and also oversee and maintain the computer units within the warranty period of three years.

The Masbate Gold Project presents great promise in creating sustainable social and economic growth for the Masbate province and the Philippines.
