Imaginet was approached by Leighton Contractors Philippines to establish and maintain cross site Internet access accounts for e-mail, Web based applications and communications. Leighton’s wished to make the most of Internet (IP) and data communications technologies to lower communications costs, improve efficiency, optimize the construction project schedules and minimize delays. Providing basic high speed Internet access in major cities is a relatively simple matter that almost any Internet Service Provider can easily handle. However, in remote and extreme locations satisfying current needs and anticipating future growth and cost-reduction opportunities requires a real understanding of the client's specific communication problems and the technologies available to solve those problems. Leighton’s has a number major construction projects underway at any one time. Due to this in addition to the normal permanent office and industrial buildings a number of temporary office and construction sites are placed in various locations. Each of these temporary sites employs a varying number of project management and engineering personnel for the life of the project. Each temporary site has full administrative office facilities, including electric and telephone services. Imaginet evaluated Leighton’s needs and how they could be accomplished. This involved identifying the key needs for Internet services, developing a basic communications network plan, and analyzing and presenting the most cost-effective and flexible alternatives that allowed for future expansion, growth and relocation of sites. By integrating technologies Imaginet was able to meet the requirements of these complex and high value construction operations and assist Leighton in achieving their goals.
